“Thi di ngon chi”, the spectacular and impressive art program to honor the poetry of Nguyen Dynasty Emperors

Within the framework of Hue Festival 2026 and Hue Poetry Day, Hue Monuments Conservation Center and the Organizer of Hue Festival introduced “Thi di ngon chi” – an art program which honors poetic heritage of Nguyen Dynasty Emperors on March 3, 2026 (the 15th day of the first lunar month).

The event was attended by Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Member of Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, the member of the Party Standing Committee; the representatives of departments, audiences and visitors. Poetic heritage of Nguyen Dynasty Emperors, is considered as a special highlight in Vietnamese literature. Emperors are not only the national leaders, but also profound Confucian scholars who composed artworks which are rich in both intellect and artstry. For them, poetry is more than a leisure activity, but the soul, a means to express leadership, and ambition for a wealthy society.

The program features an emotional epic story, recreating Vietnamese social life under the reign of Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century. It not only describes Hue, the ancient capital, but also honors Emperors who left special highlights in national literature history.

The program begins with “Ngu xuan hoa van”, after which “Le hoi mua xuan” and “Duyet binh ngay xuan” recreated the royal court atmosphere and the national protection. Following this,“Ngay mua han hoan” celebrates labor while “phong vi dan sinh” bring daily life into royal court’s poetry.

 “Ngu gia xuong hoa thi” and “Kinh do thang canh” described the beauty of the ancient capital before “Thai hoa kien thiet”, “bao vat muon doi” and “rang ro mua xuan” wrapped up the program. Through 10 chapters, springtime is brought to life in the atmosphere of festival, imperial strategies and administration, civilian life, and the monumental task of nation-building. It is the journey spanning from the solemnity of royal court to daily life – from the sacred soul of the mountains and rivers to the echoes of thousand-year-old treasures.

Poems are connected together in historical stories combining music, lights, stage visuals, artists’ performances and modern effects. Through historic language, the program created an in-depth, respectful, familiar and glorious art space.

 “Thi di ngon chi” is more than just an art program, but a journey back to the quintessences of royal poetry, contributing to spreading Hue cultural heritage in contemporary context.

At the end of the program, poems can be heard in the Imperial City, connecting the past and present, expressing humanitarian spirit, intellectual, and the power of ancestors to today generations. From this, each person loves, is proud of and responsible for maintaining and promoting Hue heritage’s value so that poetry does not exist in history, but become alive at the heart of Hue City.
