Thướng Tiêu, also known as Dựng nêu (Neu Pole Erecting Ceremony), is a traditional ritual of the Vietnamese people and an important ceremony at the beginning of the lunar new year in the Nguyen Dynasty. Besides the spiritual beliefs of the local people, the Dựng nêu ceremony in the Nguyen Dynasty also served the purpose of signaling the arrival of the Tet festival. In present-day Hue City, the Dựng nêu ceremony is organized on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month at Thế Miếu (starting at 9 am) and Long An Palace (starting at 10 am). This event is hosted by Hue Monuments Conservation Center, reenacted for the first time in 2013, and has since become an indispensable tradition in the cultural heritage of Hue, marking the beginning of a traditional Tet celebration.
