Emperor Gia Long was the king who chose to be buried alongside his beloved queen, Empress Thừa Thiên Cao. When Empress Thừa Thiên Cao passed away in 1814, Emperor Gia Long was deeply saddened. He personally oversaw the construction of their joint mausoleum, and during its six years of construction, he even had a near-fatal accident. In 1820, when he eventually passed away, their tombs were side by side.
