Recently, in late June, a piano recital by the talented French pianist David Greilsammer took place on the 4th floor, Lecture Hall 2, Hue Academy of Music, as part of the program titled “A journey with Satie”. During his tour of Vietnam, he also performed in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
Satie, whose real name was Érik Satie, was a prominent French composer who pioneered minimalism in classical music and had many innovative musical experiences throughout the 20th century. He loved the “repetition” of melodies and changes in harmony.
David Greilsammer brought to the audience of the Ancient Capital the unique and timeless creations by Érik Satie, including Gymnopédie no.3, Gnossienne no.1, Gnossienne no.2, Gnossienne no.3, Gymnopédie no. 2, and Gymnopédie no.1, etc., along with works by other famous classical composers, namely Domenico Scarlatti, Franz Schubert, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Philip Glass, etc. He was born in 1977 in France, who is honored by the public and the media of the country as one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation. David Greilsammer is currently the Music and Artistic Director of the Geneva Camerata Orchestra (Switzerland) and the Principal Conductor of the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra (Colombia).
David Greilsammer has had the opportunity to collaborate and perform with many renowned orchestras around the world, such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and the Verdi Orchestra of Milan. His latest album titled “Labyrinth”, released on the Naïve label, has received over 20 international awards, confirming his talent and relentless creativity.
David craves innovation and always strives to create bold and impressive musical projects. His biggest goal is to bring classical music closer to young audiences, making it more accessible and open. His performance themed “Scarlatti: Cage Sonatas” is a typical classical music project aimed at young people, a meeting and fusion of the past and present. He has also collaborated with many jazz, rock, and world music artists, and combined classical music with many other interesting art forms such as dance, theater, and visual arts so as to make the performances more attractive and lively.
Throughout the 70-minute program, David Greilsammer presented the audience with more than 20 outstanding pieces. In him, there was a high level of concentration and complete absorption in the music. David Greilsammer demonstrated his masterful piano skills through his virtuosic and emotional playing, expressing the timeless spirit of classical music. His performance style ranged from leisurely and gentle to fierce and intense. David Greilsammer has a truly artistic appearance, with his signature curly hair and the romantic traits of a French male.
The concert hall was completely silent so that the audience could focus on enjoying the wonderful melodies. A large number of young people stayed until the end of the program to pose for photos and interact with David. I felt so happy that the Ancient Capital is the choice and destination of great artists, while young Hue audiences are opening their hearts to diverse art forms.
