On the morning of April 25, 2025, at Dong Ba Market, the Hue City People’s Committee held the launching ceremony for the Plastic Bag-Free Month 2025 under the theme “Bringing Green Home.”

The program was jointly organized by the Hue City People’s Committee, the Provincial Women’s Union, the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Hue Green Hub Project, with the companionship of Thua Thien Hue Co.op Mart and the Hue Urban Environment and Public Works Joint Stock Company (HEPCO).

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Truong Dinh Hanh, Vice Chairman of the Hue City People’s Committee, emphasized that the event aims to contribute to raising awareness and responsibility of the government, people, and businesses in reducing the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic products in daily life. At the same time, it encourages the habit of using environmentally friendly, reusable, and recyclable products.

During the launching ceremony, over 1,000 reusable cloth bags were distributed free of charge to small business owners and consumers at Dong Ba Market, with the participation and support of the Provincial Women’s Union and the Co.op Mart Hue supermarket.

Representatives of TVA Project - WWF Vietnam and the Department of Agriculture and Environment awarded certificates to representatives of GO! Hue Supermarket and Co.opmart Hue Supermarket for their commitment to respond to the Month without plastic bags at the program.

Previously, from April 23 to 24, the Hue City People's Committee collaborated with the Women’s Union and Hue Green Hub Project to organize a series of communication activities in response to the Plastic Bag-Free Month at major markets and commercial centers such as Dong Ba Market, An Cuu Market, Tay Loc Market, and Big C Supermarket. These activities included distributing environmentally friendly cloth bags to small traders and consumers, disseminating information to raise public awareness about reducing plastic waste and replacing plastic bags with green, environmentally friendly products in daily life.

The launch of the Plastic Bag-Free Month 2025 with the theme “Bringing Green Home” is part of the city’s series of events aiming toward the goal of building Hue into a “Green City,” contributing to the implementation of the project “Hue - Green City towards sustainable development.”

Consumers use environmentally friendly bags when shopping at supermarkets.

Why It Matters

According to the Hue Department of Natural Resources and Environment, plastic waste currently accounts for 12–15% of the city’s total daily household waste. Reducing plastic consumption and single-use plastics is essential to protect the environment, preserve public health, and maintain the aesthetic charm of Hue as a heritage city.

Ms. Hoang Ngoc Tuong Van, Project Manager of "Hue - Plastic-reducing City in Central Vietnam" spoke at the launching ceremony.

Be Part of the Movement

The “Bringing Green Home” campaign not only fosters a plastic-free lifestyle but also supports Hue’s mission to become a national model for green urban living and smart environmental management. Together, residents and visitors can take small steps toward a greener, cleaner, and smarter Hue.
