Opening Ceremony of the Traditional Cuisine Week of Hue 2024

On the evening of April 27th, at Thuong Bac Park (Tran Hung Dao Street, Hue City), the Traditional Cuisine Week of Hue 2024 with the theme "Hue Cuisine with Four Directions" officially opened, organized by the People's Committee of Hue City.

Taking place from April 27th to May 1st, 2024, the Traditional Cuisine Week of Hue 2024 is an event aimed at honoring, preserving, and promoting the cultural values of Hue cuisine and famous local dishes from both within and outside the province. It continues to create and aim for new, attractive tourism products that are regularly organized to serve domestic and international tourists, contributing to the construction of Thua Thien Hue as one of the prominent cultural and tourism centers in the country and the Southeast Asia region.

The space dedicated to "Traditional Hue Cuisine" attracted a large number of local residents and tourists to visit and enjoy before the opening ceremony.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Truong Dinh Hanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City, stated that the Traditional Cuisine Week of Hue 2024, with the participation of nearly 80 food stalls, culinary artisans, professional social organizations, and food businesses from both within and outside the province, will offer visitors culinary delights from all three regions of Vietnam and unique traditional dishes that have been passed down through generations in Hue. Today's event continues to contribute to the process of building a dossier to recognize Hue Cuisine as an intangible cultural heritage of Vietnam, aiming for UNESCO recognition as a world cultural heritage; at the same time, it strives to make Hue one of the members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of culinary creativity by 2025.

Mr. Truong Dinh Hanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City, delivered the opening speech for the Traditional Cuisine Week of Hue 2024.

Through this week-long event, we aim to reaffirm that Hue remains a place where the essence of royal and folk cuisine is preserved. This also contributes to the successful implementation of Resolution 54 of the Politburo on the construction and development of Thua Thien Hue province until 2030, with a vision to 2045. The key focus of this resolution is to expedite the transformation of Thua Thien Hue into a centrally-run city, based on the preservation and promotion of the heritage values of the Ancient Capital and the cultural identity of Hue.

Master Chef Phan Ton Tinh Hai and singer, actor Nguyen Phi Hung are the Ambassadors of the Traditional Cuisine Week of Hue 2024.

During the week-long event, both locals and tourists can experience various spaces including "Traditional Hue Cuisine," "Hue Cuisine with Four Directions," "Street Food," and "Introduction of Commercial Products, Vegetarian Cuisine, and OCOP Products from Hue."

The "Traditional Hue Cuisine" space is the main area featuring 20 booths showcasing and demonstrating traditional Hue cuisine. Visitors not only get to experience and enjoy the cuisine but also witness master chefs showcasing dishes through competitions.

The "Hue Cuisine with Four Directions" space brings together the essence of northern, central, and southern cuisine through 12 booths at the event. People have the opportunity to indulge in a diverse range of dishes and explore the unique characteristics of cuisine from different regions through cooking demonstrations by Master Chefs and renowned Vietnamese culinary artisans. Additionally, visitors can experience 6 booths of pure vegetarian Hue cuisine, 5 booths featuring OCOP products from Hue, and 18 booths of commercial and tourism products from supporting units at the event.

The culinary specialties from three regions converge at the Hue Culinary Week 2024.'

A distinctive feature of the Hue Traditional Culinary Week 2024 is the exhibition space showcasing 105 ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dresses), 105 Hue dishes, and 105 pieces of silk poetry calligraphy about Hue cuisine. This allows locals and tourists to envision the diversity, richness, intricacy, and aesthetic value of Hue cuisine, which has become the subject of poetry and music. The program also includes activities such as the 2nd Hue Traditional Cuisine Contest, artistic performances, demonstrations by traditional cuisine artisans, and culinary experience activities.

With numerous distinctive activities organized continuously throughout the 5 days, the Hue Traditional Culinary Week 2024 promises to be an enticing cultural program showcasing the culinary heritage of Hue and various regions across the country, converging by the romantic Huong River. It pledges to offer tourists and local residents new and exciting experiences of traditional and contemporary Vietnamese cuisine during the holiday period from April 30th to May 1st.
