Access to smart and sustainable tourism

On December 11, 2023, Hue tourism investment forum was co-organized by Thua Thien Hue Tourism Department and Mekong Insitute (Thailand) to take up opportunities and cooperation between relevant parties, localities and potential investors from South Korea and ASEAN. It was also an effort made to develop Hue into a smart and sustainable tourism destination.

As the former capital of Vietnam under Nguyen dynasty, Thua Thien Hue proudly conserves Vietnamese typical cultural prosperities, including 1000 tangible monuments, historical relics, religious relics, etc. Hue Monuments Complex was the most typical and was recognized as world cultural heritage by UNESCO.

Besides, T2 terminal - Phu Bai International Airport which was inaugurated in June 2023 plays important role in exploiting international tourism market.

Speaking at the event, the Director of Tourism Department Nguyen Van Phuc hoped that relevant units and businesses would have a chance to take the opportunity and cooperate with potential investors from South Korea, Thailand and Mekong region so that Thua Thien Hue would become a smart and sustainable tourism destination.

Director Nguyen Van Phuc expected that the forum would introduce typical products and destinations; offer information regarding to Thua Thien Hue to South Korean businesses and investors as well as provide businesses an opportunity to exchange and cooperate.

Mekong region attracts millions turns of visitors every year thanks to various exciting destinations. In recent years, UNESCO-recognized heritages proved the significant increase in visitor number as more tourists are now searching for experiencing culture and historical heritages. However, this significant growth posed considerable challenges such as conserving historical relics and cultural heritages; protecting the environment in Mekong countries. These reminded the role of responsible and sustainable tourism.

In addition to raising the awareness of both local community and visitors via technology and innovation, smart and sustainable tourism is the solution to these challenges. Regional authorities are now accessing to more cooperative and balanced approach. The impact on society, environment and economy of destinations should be taken into consideration.
