On February 24, 2024, the Standing member of the provincial Party Committee, Vice Permanent Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue province Nguyen Thanh Binh had a meeting with Ms. Wendy Yamazaki, Regional Vice President, Government Relations (Asia) of Royal Caribbean Group. Ms. Bui Cam Ha - the adviser of Royal Caribbean group in Vietnam and Ms. Nikole Wong, the adviser of Royal Caribbean group in South East Asia, leaders of departments and agencies attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Vice Permanent Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue province Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized that the Government, Ministry of Culture - Sport and Tourism, relevant departments and localities including Thua Thien Hue province are concerned about developing cruise ship tourism. Therefore, innovative policies have already been adopted while favorable conditions have been created to cruse ship to Vietnam in general and Thua Thien Hue province in particular. In detail, bodies and localities have promoted administrative policies, conducted effective migration procedure at sea port, reduced fee for cruise ship, improved infrastructure and developed new tourism products to serve tourists.

On this basis, the leader of Thua Thien Hue province kindly requested Royal Caribbean Group to let Chan May sea port enlist fixed destinations in 2024 and coming years, give the province pieces of advise to connect cruise ship tourism with developing tourism products associated with local features culture, cuisine and landscape. At the same time, Vice Chairman kindly requested Royal Caribbean to cooperate and support the province in introducing Thua Thien Hue province to cruise ship tourists in the world.

At the meeting, Ms. Wendy Yamazaki, Regional Vice President, Government Relations (Asia) of Royal Caribbean Group kindly informed that there are great potentials for cruise ship tourism in the Asia. Among groups approximately 1000 voyages in 2023, about 360 voyages docked in the Asia. Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam are three favorite destinations of tourists in South East Asia. During Royal Carribean’s voyage along Pacific Ocean, Vietnam in general and Central Vietnam in particular is considered as a strategic and favorite destination of Royal Caribbean’s cruise ships.

Ms. Wendy Yamazaki highly appreciated efforts made by Thua Thien Hue province to accelerate cruise ship tourism, for example investing in wharf, break water, giving priority to cruse ship, improving tourism environment, enhancing the quality and diversify services offered at destinations, turning Hue into a fantastic destination on their journey.

According to Regional Vice President, Government Relations (Asia) of Royal Caribbean Group, Royal Caribbean wished to further cooperate with Thua Thien Hue to create culturally imbued tourism products, particularly traditional and royal performance space, traditional craft products parade, cuisine, shopping, etc. Ms. Wendy Yamaky emphasized that Royal Caribbean would continue to select Thua Thien Hue as a fixed destination and accompany the province in developing cruise ship tourism.  

In addition, Ms. Wendy Yamazaki hoped Thua Thien Hue and relevant sectors would propose to the Government so that favorable condition shall be created in terms of visa policy, visa exemption and technological application in migration procedure.
