Opening Ceremony of the 2024 International Conference on Language, Culture, and Society in the Asian Context

On the morning of November 22, in Hue City, Hue College, in collaboration with Malang State University (Indonesia), the University of Hyderabad (India), Mahasarakham University (Thailand), the Institute of Cultural Anthropology (Hanoi), and the Institute of Northeast Arts and Culture Studies (Thailand), organized the 7th International Conference on Language, Society, and Culture in Asian Contexts (LSCAC 2024). The conference, themed "Language, Society, and Culture in the Asian Context in the Digital Age," attracted a wide range of participants.

The conference was attended by representatives of the Central Propaganda Department, leaders of the Institute of Cultural Anthropology, vice presidents of Mahasarakham University (Thailand), Malang State University (Indonesia), Hyderabad University (India), Lindenwood University (USA), and Takushoku University (Japan), as well as leaders from the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province and Hue City. The event also welcomed over 150 international and Vietnamese scientists from various countries and territories.

Gathering International and Vietnamese Experts

The LSCAC 2024 conference brought together a significant number of scientists from the region and beyond, highlighting its global stature. Since its inception in 2007, LSCAC has served as a prominent platform for universities, colleges, and research institutes worldwide to discuss the profound impacts of the digital revolution. This year, the conference focuses on analyzing the influence of digital technologies on sustainable social and cultural development in Asia, addressing challenges and opportunities in preserving and promoting indigenous knowledge, languages, education, and cultural heritage.

Key Discussions and Objectives

The conference seeks to examine critical features contributing to Asia's social resilience, including its multicultural and multilingual diversity. It also aims to explore the dual impact of artificial intelligence and the digital revolution, assessing their role in empowering communities and shaping inclusive policies.

Over 160 scientific papers were submitted, with 90 selected for presentation. These include 86 papers delivered in 22 oral presentation sessions, covering 14 main topics, such as education and digital technology, multilingual education in Asia, the role of digital technology in language preservation, Asian modern literature and cultural identity, Asian tourism, environmental and demographic challenges, and cultural heritage conservation.

Distinguished Speakers

Prominent speakers at the plenary sessions included:

  • Prof. Prabhakar Rao Jandhyala (University of Hyderabad, India) with the topic "Multilingualism and Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development in Asia."
  • Ted Morrissey (Lindenwood University, USA) on "Digital Resources for Learning English from Ancient to Modern Times."
  • Assoc. Prof. Pham Thi Hong Nhung (Rector of Hue University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam) on "English Teaching Practices in Vietnam: Policies and Implementation."

Academic Activities and Collaborations

Beyond presentations, the conference featured several notable events, such as discussions on "Scientific Research in the Digital Age" by Assoc. Prof. Do Lai Thuy (Institute of Cultural Anthropology, Hanoi). Additionally, bilateral and multilateral agreements were signed, fostering partnerships between Vietnamese and international research institutions.

Dr. Hoang Bao Hung, Principal of Hue College, representative of the Organizing Committee, presented flowers and gifts to thank the speakers who participated in reporting and conducting the Opening Session of the LSCAC 2024 Conference.

During the conference, attendees also had the chance to explore Hue's cultural heritage, home to eight UNESCO-recognized heritage sites.

As a prestigious forum, LSCAC has facilitated academic exchanges and collaboration across disciplines such as AI, economics, politics, and tourism.
