Hue is a famous folk song land with dances of the rhythms such as Mai Nhi, Mai Day, Khoan Thai, Dan Trai, the sweetness like the soul of Hue people, the soaring and smooth rhythms like Ly Con Sao, Ly Hoai Xuan, Ly Tinh Tang. In addition to folk music, Hue also has a solemn royal music line such as Giao Nhac, Mieu Nhac, Ngu Tu Nhac, Dai Trieu Nhac, Thuong Trieu Nhac, Yen Nhac. Ca Hue is a blending between two lines of music that has its own characteristics with the deep musical substance that stirs people's hearts, and contains enough joy, anger, love, stubborn as the life of the ancient capital.
Ca Hue includes both Hue songs and Hue instruments, based on a system of tunes of over 60 vocal and instrumental works within two major lines, the North and South tunes. Songs belonging to the North have cheerful and luxurious tones and songs belonging to the South sound barbaric and sad. There are also songs that both have the sound of the North melody, and are as melodious as the Tu Dai Canh song.
Ca Hue was born in the 17th century, and became an elegant hobby of the royal family during a long time when Hue was the capital of Dang Trong, then the capital of the whole country under the Nguyen Dynasty, reaching the peak from Minh Mang Dynasty (1820-1840) to Tu Duc Dynasty (1848-1883).
Ca Hue arose from the royal court, then spread to the folk, blended with the flourishing Hue folk music, creating a clear local identity.
Ca Hue has been recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2015 and is being developed a dossier to submit to UNESCO for recognition as a Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Previously, listening to Hue songs in the Perfume River was an elegant hobby of the royal family and officials in Hue palace. Today, this type of entertainment has been "popularized" so that all visitors here can enjoy Ca Hue on the Perfume River and at the Royal Palace.
