History:

The process of establishing Tung Thien Vuong Residence can be said to have started in the Year of Ky Hoi (1838) after being knighted as Tung Quoc Cong, he was appointed a residence as Tuy Ly Vuong residence in Liem Nang ward in the Citadel, east of Luc Bo (now in Thuan Thanh ward). However, because he was interested in the beautiful scenery of Loi Nong River (the former name of An Cuu River), he moved his residence from Liem Nang ward to the north bank of that river, built mountains, dug lakes, and built a new residence called "Ky Thuong Vien".

In 1846, Tung Quoc Cong Mien Tham spent his own money to buy a large land on the side of the Loi Nong River (An Cuu River), designed, built mountains and dug lakes on his own, set up Tieu Vien and took his mother, Thuc Tan Nguyen Thi Bao, from the Citadel to here to take care of and nurture.

In 1849, the title was changed to Ky Thuong Vien.

In 1870, when Thi Ong Mien Tham died, Ky Thuong Vien became Tung Thien Vuong Tu, commonly known as Tung Thien Vuong Residence. This is a place that worships Thi Ong and his family. The pavilion, communal houses, poem archives... in the Ky Thuong Vien is no longer available, instead, there are two shrines: the front one worships Mrs. Thuc Tan Nguyen Thi Bao, the mother of Tung Thien Vuong; the rear one worships Thi Ong and his family members.

Architecture:

Tung Thien Vuong Residence is a residence of great size and scale, both inside and outside there are up to 16 architectural works, such as: Thuong Ha Bach Lo Duong (a place to welcome guests, also a place to receive the poetic manuscripts of Tu Duc Emperor, which is transferred from the Citadel to Tung Quoc Cong to help the king), Mo Truong (where Tung Quoc Cong and his brothers, friends, descendants, students composed poems), Bach Bi (the residence of the wives of Tung Quoc Cong), Tung Van (the room for poetry and pens), Co Cam Dinh (where Tung Quoc Cong sings, plays chess, plays mahjong with householders and friends), Mac Van Sao (where to store and look up scriptures, history, stories of Confucianism), Xuy Tieu Uy (where Tung Quoc Cong often plays bamboo flute with artisans), So Tung Dinh (orange, tangerine, grapefruit... garden), Han Luc Hien (flower garden), Vo Phi Tan Ta (bathhouse located next to the lake with penjing), Nhat Quyen Thach (stone bridge over the lake for sightseeing), Khong Minh Bo (promenade around the Ky Thuong Vien), Thanh Tinh Thoi (door to the residence, later changed to Tung Thien Vuong Tu Mon), Ben Phu (water wharf in front of the residence folk still call "Tung Residence wharf", where there is a small sailing boat for Tung Quoc Cong to roam on the Loi Nong and Perfume rivers)... Therefore, if the other Residences are considered the particular palace of the princes and queens, Tung Thien Vuong Residence is a place to go to discuss poetry between the Confucian scholars of the time, the guests, including the ambassador of the Qing Dynasty Lao Sung Quang, come here to discuss literature and world affairs because of the talent of the host.

Ky Thuong Vien is not a private residence like other residences. Tung Thien Vuong is like a small sponsor. ” It was at the Ky Thuong Vien Tung Quoc Cong established Tung Van Thi Xa, later changed to Mac Van Thi Xa, gathered famous writers in Hue capital, composed and recited poems together.
