Huyen Tran Temple Festival

The Huyền Trân Temple Festival in 2024 is scheduled to take place on February 18th (the 9th day of the first lunar month). The event will be held at the Huyền Trân Cultural Center, located at 151 Thiên Thai Street, An Tây Ward, Huế City.

Annually on the ninth day of the first lunar month, which marks the passing of Princess Huyền Trân, Thừa Thiên Huế province organizes the Huyền Trân Temple Festival on Ngũ Phong Mountain (now the Huyền Trân Cultural Center). The festival aims to express gratitude, acknowledge, and remember Princess Huyền Trân's contributions to the nation, particularly her role in expanding the territories to the south (now the regions of Quảng Trị and Thừa Thiên Huế).

The opening ceremony of the festival features a special historical art program with the theme "Aspiring to Ancestors," depicting the life and significant contributions of Princess Huyền Trân, who more than 700 years ago sacrificed her personal happiness to contribute to the history of the country.

The festival continues with a solemn national peace prayer ceremony held at the Hương Vân Zen Monastery, following the traditional rituals of Buddhism. This activity aims to pray for national peace, favorable weather conditions, abundant harvests, the well-being of the people, prosperity, and the development, innovation, and integration of the country. After the prayer ceremony, local residents and visitors line up respectfully to make offerings and pray in the early days of the new lunar year.

Following the ceremonial part, the Huyền Trân Temple Festival includes various artistic performances and entertainment activities, such as traditional martial arts demonstrations, lion and dragon dances, folk games, traditional competitions like stick pushing and pot breaking, chess competitions, calligraphy displays, and exhibitions of traditional products and Hue's culinary culture.
