History:

The Buddha was Crown Prince Siddhartha, the son of King Sanskrit and Queen Magma in India. The Prince has 32 good generals. Growing up, the prince was a brilliant, intelligent man. He married Princess Gia Du Da La, giving birth to a son.

One day, the prince was ordered to visit the city. At a corner in the road, the prince met an old man and asked him to tell him that everyone would be old and weak, the prince was very sad. The prince transformed himself into a merchant out of the city. This time he met a seriously ill person who was near death, then saw a funeral procession pass by. The prince knew it was a ceremony for the dead. The prince understands the meaning of life, people do not pass away from birth, old age, illness, death. He determined to find the truth to liberate beings. The prince left the palace, his wife and children, determined to go to the monk. After attaining the path, he went on a mission for 49 years, then entered Nirvana.

Buddhism is the religion that is admired by the masses in Hue. 80% of the population are believers. Vesak Day is the day most families and pagodas in Hue organize and prepare actively. The 14th day of the 4th lunar month is the preparation day for the festival. People decorated their houses, hung lights, and made flowers. Most importantly, on the altar of Buddha, flowers, incense, and tea are displayed beautifully.

The organizers take care of the construction of the stage in front of Tu Dam pagoda, close to the pagoda to organize the main ceremony on the morning of the fifteenth day of April. On the evening of April 18, the road to Tu Dam Pagoda was crowded with people, watching lights and ceremonies.

On the main day of the full moon festival in April, all temples begin to celebrate from 4 am.

Particularly at Tu Dam pagoda, at the main stage, the ceremony begins at 7 am. The ceremony must set up a newborn statue of the Buddha walking on the lotus flower. Around the head is a shining light. Under the lotus statue, there are seven lotuses.

At the full moon, after the monks and Buddhists of the pagodas, the framework of the festival is complete, and the time to celebrate the new ritual begins. At this time at Tu Dam pagoda, Buddhists are in the proper lines, the monks are in the prescribed positions, two rows of young women, Ao dai in blue color, two hands supporting the flowers along the two sides of the stage to the gate of the pagoda. The Buddhist flags hanging in front of the temple yard create a both solemn and dazzling scene.

At the beginning of the ceremony are three sounds of bells and drums from Bat Nha. Next is the speech of a monk representing the region, presenting the meaning of Vesak Day. This is usually the general discourse of the Buddhist association during the year, reading to the general public on the day of Buddha's birthday.
