By the Nguyen Dynasty, after unifying the country, Emperor Gia Long decided to build the capital in Hue. Along with the construction of the Temple of Literature at the location above Linh Mu Pagoda (Thien Mu Pagoda), Quoc Tu Giam School was also established there, originally with the name of Doc Hoc Duong.

While princesses stay in "De" after getting married, "Phu" is where princes live. These residences are located in Hue Imperial City and the outskirt of Hue City Kim Long, Vy Da, Gia Hoi, and the An Cuu riverbank are the most crowded areas. Like garden houses, every residence is planned and constructed in traditional architecture.
